Dominik - 5 days old

Dominik was born on the 20th of January weighing 4.55 kg (10 lb), 52 cm in length. It was definitely a quicker and easier delivery than I have previously to which I’m sure I owe the thanks to the many prayers that were sent my way. Contractions started for real around 3am and by 8am we were at the hospital. He was born at 12:44 in the afternoon. I’m recovering really well and am very happy to now be home after 4 days at the hospital. The first 3 days are mandatory, and the extra day was due to a little complication that again, thanks to the prayers of many the Lord worked out. Due to my blood being 0- and his A- there were some antibodies causing jaundice in his blood. He needed to be in light therapy for 12 hours and thankfully that brought things back to normal, where they’ll stay Lord willing. I’m so, so thankful to each of you who heard the prayer request for him to respond well to the light therapy and that the Lord helped his little body recover. He’s a big strong boy, eats well, is alert when awake and is an all around sweetie. He already slept through the past 3 nights, so I’m a happy mommy and will enjoy the sleep at night for however long it will last.

Adrian was happy to see his new baby brother whom he calls Donimik when we came home yesterday. He’s still checking out the situation and interested in how much of his mommy time this new little guy is going to usurp. Ha! He’s been sleeping in his own bed very well (we got that going a few weeks ago) and is talking so much more every day. This was the first time that I was away from him for more than a day and I came home in awe at how big he is.

The Italian hospital system was very welcoming and I feel privileged to have had Dominik here. Because of my Argentine nationality (from being born there) all my medical services for the pregnancy and delivery and the next 6 months of care are completely free of charge. All the midwifes and personnel at the hospital were very nice and the midwife who delivered Dominik was in particular a God-send as she doesn’t even work in this hospital, but was there just for the day of my delivery. She actually works at a natural hospital 45 minutes away which some ppl had suggested I look into, but because of the distance I wasn’t able to. So she basically came just for me and after that was on her way again. An answer to prayers for a good midwife! A HUGE thanks also goes to my very dear friend Daniela (of Stefano) who was with me through everything, translating, helping me get through contractions, encouraging and helping me through the to the very end. I couldn’t have managed half as well without her. The baby came out with about 5 or 6 pushing contractions and boy, was I ever happy for that.

So the journey continues and we’re so thankful to have another tiny bundle of joy in our lives.
