Adrian - Part 2 (17 months)angelina, 31/03/2009 22:41, Views: 432 It's the beginning of April 2009 already, how time flies. Adrian is now almost 1 1/2 years old and I thought some of you might be interested in where he's at these days. His first "big" word was "Zhaba" which is frog in Polish. He loves saying this word and uses it at every opportunity. His other current favorite words are "Joe" which comes out more like "doe". He loves the boys in our home; Joe and Joni and calls them both Joe. Ha! He also says "turtle" "toes" "bubbles" and a very pronounced "nooo-wah" (his way of saying no) and "uh-oh". He's learning to say more words, but have been his most used ones. He learned a couple weeks ago that the owl says "oooh-ooooo" and finds it fasicnating and can tell you what an owl says whenver you ask him, and whenever he sees one in a book. One of his favorite activities is standing on a chair at the sink to "wash the dishes" and play with the water. He can do this happily for up to 40 minutes and makes a big fuss when it's time to do something else. He's now potty trained and learned at 1 year and 4 months. After just one day of wetting all his pants, the next day he learned to use the potty. He still has some accidents, but thankfully it was pretty quick and easy for him to learn the principal of "holding it" and not wetting his pants . He also weaned himself recently which was a surprise, but one that I was very thankful for as it would have broken my heart to wean him if he still wanted to nurse. From one hour to the next he just decided he didn't want to nurse anymore. Over the next few days he thought he'd like to nurse again, but it was either just because he was hungry or needed some comfort and a glass of milk or a long hug filled the need. The Lord is so good to us.
What else, he goes to a nice little daycare from time to time. A friend of ours owns it and said he's welcome to come anytime, so he's gone there with me a few times and is so excited to play with all the new toys and climb on the slide, swing and playground area they have. He just loves to swing and can sit in a baby swing at a park for half an hour getting swung. He really enjoys learning and doing activities that have anything to do with the alphabet. He knows can tell you the sounds of half of the letters, along with pointing them out to you and is learning more and more. He's also really big on drawing. He's been able to hold a pen well for a couple months now and seems quite talented with it. He's starting to draw detail (which right now amounts to a few delicately placed dots and small lines) aside from the big arm movements and consequent scribbles he loves to make. He'll sometimes scribble a little something and then show you that it's a fish (by making the fish sound and pointing). So sweet! This month the Lord enabled us to start setting up a kids school/play room which now has a large rug, bookshelf, couch, and kiddo table and chairs which makes things much more organized and easy to work with especially when others take care of him.
The next thing we're looking forward to is a trip to Peru that Adrian and I will take, to visit "Grandma and Grandpa" (a BIG thanks to Gram, Jay and Sylvie, Aaron and Mom and Dad for making it possible!). We'll try to keep you posted! We love you.
